"The ethereal shifting forests of Perplexiplex are offered as a complimentary “memory cleansing spa”, to rinse harmful Earth memories from Travelers that would otherwise pollute the fragile mnemonic ecology of Convergence. This same service is offered – and greatly encouraged – upon exit; to offset the depletion of memories vital to the preservation of Convergence psychic history and culture. Now every Traveler can truly “Leave Convergence better than they remembered it”.

The Perplexiplex is an event venue and interactive light show within the Transit Station of Convergence Station. It is adjacent to HELLOFOOD, the N TRAM, and the central Quantum Stairwell. The projection mapped visuals were created by Moment Factory.[1]

When not used for an event, the room cycles through four 4-minute programs synchronized to music. They are called Fungi Sensation, Spectral Vision, Neon Intrusion, and Palette Obsession.[1] The movement of visitors through the room triggers various effects.

Development[]

The Perplexiplex was a huge project with many hours of work. Matt King asked, "How do we make something that's immersive and that can be exciting and dynamic?" He praised the collaboration with Moment Factory, which really felt like one team. "To see a team like that come in and have the same work ethic that we do. That share a lot of the ethos and the values that we do. That's just kindred spirits right there."[1]

The soundtrack is by Cole Bee Wilson, who said, "I wanted to make really earnest pieces about beauty. Like how nature blows you away with its beauty. It wasn't about making the perfect composition. It was about reflecting on perfect beauty, like the sacred perfect beauty of nature."[2]

Trivia[]

  • In the story, Superconductor General Oleander created the Perplexiplex so that its mnemonic energy could strengthen Earth's weak tether to Convergence.[3]
  • "VJing" is a term used for the live minipulation of the visuals during a music performance.[2]
  • The room has a capacity of 500 people.[2]
  • There is an immersive yoga experience held each quarter.[2]
  • The entire loop through all the programs is 16 minutes long.
  • Meow Wolf staff have said that visitors often consider this the best room in Convergence Station.
  • This experience is similar to the Projected Desert in Omega Mart. (However, those visuals are not interactive.)
